Using the input meter and fader

Monitor incoming levels and adjust input gain responsibly.

The station audio meter provides a quick indication that audio is reaching the encoder. Use the fader/input control to make appropriate level adjustments without driving the signal into clipping.

Consistently high peaks at or beyond the clipping region can produce audible distortion. Very low levels may produce an unnecessarily quiet stream.

Level controls should be used together with proper source gain staging; they are not a substitute for correcting a badly configured upstream audio chain.
